Via Miramare, 97018 Sampieri - Scicli (RG)
The name is evocative, and what could be more beautiful than a dinner with your loved one, looking at the sea, the sinuous movement of its waves, the shades of deep blue that, at dusk, merge with the sky?
The new fish restaurant is located inside the Pappafico plant, right on the splendid sea of Sampieri, expertly painted by the master Guccione, and with the background of the Penna furnace, Inspector Montalbano’s Mannara, as a frame.
But from “umari” – whose cuisine is guided by the young and talented Mirko Caruso – the sea, in addition to looking at it, is savored in the dishes offered, the result of a research that starting from the raw material, always fresh, enhances its aromas and the authenticity of the flavors with a careful but never excessively invasive reworking, underlined by an aesthetically accurate presentation of the courses.
Fresh fish arrives every day from the nearby ports of Scoglitti and Portopalo, but also from some small port that docks early in the morning in the small port of Sampieri, and is processed by the skilled hands of the chefs who take care of every aspect of the kitchen, from the welcome entrance, passing through the raw marenostrum, up to a smoked scampi with buffalo stracciatella or a seared octopus with goat cheese. The first courses are very interesting: spaghetti with sea urchins creamed with cauliflower, shrimp juice or parmigiana in a risotto. In the seconds it ranges from cod with potatoes and cuttlefish ink to tuna with stuffed pepper.
A separate chapter deserves the desserts all to be discovered and handmade by our pastry-chef who also takes care of the bread-making to be tasted with the oils of our territory. To accompany this sensory journey there are some selected proposals from the wine and champagne list, in the choice of which you will be guided by our maitre.
Umari, the culture of traditional seafood cuisine!
